New Venue, 6th Memorial Photography Competition, Continuation of Holiday Shows including Pop-Up Photo Booth & More Highlight First Friday Art Walk - JANUARY 6
Kick off the new year in arty style at the next First Friday on January 6! Choose from new First Friday venue at Urban Star Vintage Boutique, Cooperative Gallery’s annual Bob Johnston Memorial Photography Show and Competition, the Holiday Show at Orazio Salati Gallery, new acrylic paintings exhibit at The Gallery at 5 Riverside Drive/Towers, Pop-Up Holiday Photo Booth at The Bundy Museum, and more at the next First Friday Art Walk in Binghamton, NY!
The newest First Friday venue, Urban Star Vintage Boutique (75 Court St.) will host an Open House featuring vintage clothing and jewelry, new year’s shopping deals, as well as a display of artwork by local artists. Urban Star Vintage Boutique is affiliated with the Broome County Urban League with their office located at 43-45 Carroll St., Binghamton; website: bcul.org.
At Cooperative Gallery 213 (213 State St., Artists’ Row), there’s the 6th Bob Johnston Memorial Photography Show* and Competition, January 6-28, 2017. Sponsored by the Cooperative Gallery 213 and Two Rivers Photography Club, the competition is open-themed with all photographic media and all photographers eligible to enter. Photographic entries will be judged by local professional photographer, Chuck Haupt, formerly with The Press & Sun-Bulletin and Cooperative Gallery member, with prizes and cash awards for the winners announced at 6:30 PM on First Friday. Awards will be given for Best of Show, two Judge’s Choice (each in black-and-white and color), and 10 Honorable Mentions. [*This show honors the artistic vision of Robert C. Johnston (1917-2010), a founding member of the Cooperative Gallery and a lifelong photographer, an ‘Ansell Adams’ kind of photographer who worked mostly in black-and-white film and favored both urban and natural landscapes."]
At Orazio Salati Gallery and Studio (204 State St., Artists Row), there’s the “Holiday Show” with six artists showcasing pottery, photography, paintings, cards, and fiber art by: Fern Pritikin Lynn; Greg Chianis; Marie LoParco; David LoParco; Cindy Henry; and Laura Monforte (Thru Jan. 2017).
A Pop-Up Holiday Photo Booth will be held at The Bundy Museum of History and Art (129 Main St.) as part of the museum’s First Friday events and art shows. The photo booth by Habitat Studio, featuring photographer Katie Kanazawich, will be held in the museum’s parlor on the first floor and will include Victorian accessories and props; $5 digital photo, $10 print. Also at the Bundy Museum in the 3rd fl. Gallery: “Four Seasons” – Photography by Sean Murphy, showcasing the beauty of the seasons…spring flowers to summer waves to shocking fall colors, and snow-covered treasures…covering an entire year (Thru Jan. 31, 2017). Gallery: “Ansco: Eye on Binghamton” – An exhibition in collaboration with Binghamton Photo featuring cameras, film, photographs & promotional materials from Ansco Photographic Co. (Thru Jan. 31, 2017). Bundy Art Gallery admission always free and open Tue-Sat, 11-5.
At The Gallery at 5 Riverside Drive/Towers (5 Riverside Dr.), there’s an exhibit of acrylic paintings by Paul LeBlanc in the Lobby and Library (Thru Feb. 2017), featuring a broad range of images from flowers to sports. An Opening/Artist Reception will be held on First Friday from 6-9 PM and a Gallery Talk by LeBlanc at 7 PM. LeBlanc says: "He enjoys working in acrylics for the spontaneous effects, often mixing colors directly on the canvas causing an unplanned, exciting effect."
This First Friday Art Walk, presented by GWSA and sponsored in part by Equinox Broadcasting, M&T Bank, and Triple Cities Carousel, will feature 19 locations in Binghamton, downtown and west side, and open Friday from 6-9 PM, unless noted otherwise.
